EXPERIENTIAL PAINTINGS TO REJUVENATE YOUR SOUL!
I AM BAUHAUS
My art is the embodiment of my life learnings as I attempt to paint from my heart, not my brain. I paint the energy I feel to reveal my soul essence. Should a painting of mine appeal to you, then I've accomplished a truly soul to soul communication.
My process is completely improvisational. One choice of color, and each brush stroke leads to the next. Nothing is preplanned and the outcome is a unique creation resulting in a one-of-a-kind image. I prefer to be suggestive and avoid images that can only mean one thing to the viewer, which makes for great conversations as viewers point out their personal discoveries.
My goal is to create abstract pieces that fully engage viewers to bring them hours of joy from their new discoveries. I am passionate and sincere about the therapeutic effects of color on the human body, mind and spirit, and hope that viewers are drawn to my creations as a daily regimen to find comfort and healing.
It is also important that my patrons find flexibility and value in the art that I produce. I compose each canvas considering all four orientation sides so there is not just one display positioning for each piece but four for each panel. This enhances my patron's ability to hang the art horizontally or vertically and results in multiple pairings in my diptychs and triptychs. I believe I bring new meaning to the phase 'rotate your art’.
Each original is signed en verso and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity that I have signed. Limited edition canvas giclees' are hand embellished, signed, titled and numbered on the side edge or en verso and also receive a Certificate of Authenticity.
“The purpose of Art is washing the dust of Daily Life off our Souls”

John R. Kazanjian paints from his core soul being.
Color and Creation
Color is the pertinent core of John R Kazanjian’s artistic practice.
John R. Kazanjian paints from his core soul being. The interaction of color, its ability to signify meaning and mood, and its pure and instant visual impact are elements that the artist has expertly harnessed in his artworks. All representational forms are annihilated in Kazanjian’s paintings, forcing our attention to focus on the impact and power of the colorful gestural forms that he creates.
Every expressive mark is a statement in his artwork, a reaffirmation of an unrelenting and insatiable lust for life. Carefully considered, yet boldly and instinctively applied, these colorful swirls, throws, drips, slashes and swathes of color celebrate formal purity and color’s propensity for evoking real, natural emotion.
Color represents healing, strength, positivism, passion and unadulterated creative expression for Kazanjian. The physical, mental, emotional and spiritual effect of color on the human body, mind and soul, is the true theme of his artistic endeavors. He is passionate and sincere about the therapeutic effects of color on the human body, and hopes that ‘viewers are drawn to my creations as a daily regimen to find comfort and healing.’
Process of Creation
The pace and energy of Kazanjian’s abstract artworks are tangible. The simplicity by which the infectious passion is passed into each work comes as a result of artistic confidence, talent and his dedication to refining a working process. Painting on premium quality canvas, he experiments beyond brushes with plastic spoons and forks, spray paint, rollers and sponge brushes to achieve unique and impressive aesthetic results.
‘I feel my art is magical, contemplative, healing and fun. My process can be called improvisational and intuitive and I tend to get lost in the intricacies of the depth and the details of a piece that I have created and it is those experiences I want to share.’
Inspiration and Themes
Mr. Kazanjian’s work closely examines the relationships between color, form, structure and process in order to create artworks that promote positivism and spiritual well being. The psychological, spiritual and emotional effects of color inspire his unique style of formalism, and the entire process is driven by his energetic and passionate energy.
He comes from a background of landscape architecture, completing his MLA degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1971. The interest in the relationship between structural design and the organic environment can be seen in the connection between the rigid, geometric lines and naturally expressive forms that permeate his work.
Interaction with Walter Gropius and other key figures of the Bauhaus design movement further influenced his aesthetic and developed personal artistic ideas. Kazanjian studied the principles of this prestigious movement, and his dedicated commitment to the purity of aesthetic form and color has a part of its roots embedded here.
During a student critique at Rutger University in New Brunswick NJ, Roy Lichtenstein advised Mr. Kazanjian to not ‘be afraid of adding structure and balance to anchor all that energy in your work.’ This dichotomy between structure and expression in his work sets a powerful stage for an intuitive and vibrant painting style, fueled by the inspiration he receives from the powerful effects of color.
Themes and Content
Kazanjian’s practice is infused by a desire to evoke a positive emotional, spiritual and psychological response in every viewer. His artworks tackle this challenge in many ways, always offering alluring and exhilarating images that connect in impulsive, visceral and vigorous ways with each respective viewer.
There is a great deal of consideration for the effect that each painting produces, and this helps to create an overall sense of warmth, passion and rejuvenating strength throughout his entire oeuvre.

Artist and Collector
Understanding the art of the past and the works of the present is a vital aspect of any artistic practice. As well as an artist, Mr. Kazanjian is an avid art collector. He has surrounded himself with a highly respected collection of prestigious artworks from many of the modern masters. Living with these great aesthetic achievements has inspired his own artworks, and shows how the relationship between collector and artist is often varied and multi dimensional.
After witnessing the creation and installation of Joan Miro’s wall mural for the Harvard Business School, he purchased a limited edition artwork from the artist’s ‘Ceramiques’ series. Inspired, a lifelong passion for studying, appreciating and investing in art was born.
He has surrounded himself with artworks by Joan Miro, Roy Lichtenstein, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Jackson Pollack, Karl Appel, Yaacov Agam, Sam Francis, Salvador Dali, Wassily Kandinsky, Itzchak Tarkay and Bennett Norbo. This has afforded him the opportunity to embrace and establish deep relationships with these artworks. Growing to understand them in a unique way, through lived experience and daily exposure, Kazanjian has been able to draw an impressive amount of artistic insight from these powerful and renowned artworks.
